Witness Tree

The Witness Tree Project (2014-2015) is an intimate look at the human and natural history of a single, 100-year old red oak tree at the Harvard Forest by Bullard Fellow Lynda Mapes. The result of Lynda’s exploration is the book, Witness Tree, which was published by Bloomsbury Publishing in 2017. A veteran newspaper journalist, Lynda also created an incredible archive of posts on her Witness Tree Blog, sharing discoveries as her work on the book unfolded, and bringing readers along in her life as a journalist embedded at the Harvard Forest.
