Bullard Spotlight: Nipmuc Rematriation with Sonksq Cheryll Toney Holley

With a 4,000-acre campus located on ancestral Nipmuc land1, Harvard Forest was humbled to receive a Bullard Fellowship application from Cheryll Toney Holley, the sonksq (female leader) of the Hassanamisco Nipmuc Band2. A respected historian, genealogist, and author, Toney Holley co-founded the Nipmuc Indian Development Corporation to assist in the revitalization of the Nipmuc community.

Harvard Forest Fellow Ahmed Siddig Selected to Serve on IPBES Task Force

This winter, Harvard Forest Bullard Fellow Ahmed Siddig has been chosen as an Expert to serve on the prestigious Multidisciplinary Expert Panel of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).

New Interpretive Trail Honors Nipmuc Land Relationship

The first new interpretive trail in almost a decade is now open to the public at Harvard Forest. The trail, called Manchage Manexit (place of marveling, place of departure), was created by Harvard students Tyler White (Graduate School of Design) and Kashish Bastola (Harvard College '26), with research and advising by Nia Holley

Research Spotlight: The Interactive Effects Between Forest Fragmentation and Climate Change

As researchers and policymakers consider climate change mitigation strategies worldwide, it has become increasingly important to understand the nuances of forest carbon sequestration. A new study at Harvard Forest will examine the interactive effects of forest fragmentation and climate on carbon sequestration, including how these interactions shift the balance of carbon across human-dominated landscapes.

First-Year Seminar Students End Semester with Symposium

Each fall, Harvard first-year students have the opportunity to take Research at the Harvard Forest-Global Change Ecology-Forests, Ecosystem Function, the Future.
