Harvard Forest Sample Archives

The Harvard Forest Research Sample Archives contains over 370 boxes of soil, litter, pollen and tree core specimens collected by Harvard Forest and affiliated researchers. Most of the samples were collected on Harvard Forest tracts, others were collected off-site.

Submitting Research Samples

Research Samples are accepted only from Harvard Forest and affiliated researchers who have submitted supporting data and metadata. For details about sample submission policies, download the Sample Archives Submission Form.

Using Research Samples

Use of research samples by anyone other than project personnel must be approved in writing by the project PI (Principal Investigator) or the Harvard Forest Director. Project PI (or Director) will determine how much material or how many samples may be used. A fee may be charged for staff time to provide samples and help with extraction of materials. A record of use will be added to the sample record.
