The Harvard Forest Archives can be searched or browsed using the links below. Searches are case insensitive. Scanned digital versions may be available for some items.

Archives Record Guide

Fields will vary depending on collection and content. Empty fields are not displayed.

  • HF-ID: Unique identifier assigned to each record.
  • Category: Collection to which the record belongs.
  • Creator: Person or persons responsible for creating or collecting items in the record.
  • Associated Person: Person or persons referenced in the materials.
  • Date: Date range for items in the record.
  • Location: Geographic location of items in the record.
  • Media: Material form of items in the record.
  • Contents: Brief description of items in the record.
  • Keywords: Keywords.
  • Abstract: Description of the items in the record. Notes enclosed in brackets provide additional context.
  • Related Items: Other materials related to items in the record, such as publications, maps, images or other research. Links may be available for items that have been digitized.
  • Disposal Notes: Notes for when research samples may be de-accessioned or discarded.
  • Archives Location: Physical location within the Harvard Forest Archives.
  • Access: Access to physical materials can only be obtained by contacting the Archivist. Access categories are: Active – unrestricted access; Restricted – access is generally restricted to Harvard Forest personnel but may be granted by special permission; Confidential – no access.
  • Provenance: Notes on how and when materials became part of the HF Archives.
  • Administrative Notes: Notes that provide additional internal information about the catalog record or materials in the record.
