LTER Student Research Awards

Beginning in 2020, research awards for undergraduate and graduate students incorporating Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) data and objectives have been awarded regularly through Harvard Forest's LTER Student Research Awards program. All students wishing to work with the HF LTER program are welcome. No prior association with the LTER program is necessary.
Deadline for submitting is April 1, 2023.
To apply, please email the following information to Research Director Jonathan Thompson:
- A completed proposal (here), with <1,000 word project description and proposed budget of up to $2,500. Priority will be given to research proposals that: (1) incorporate LTER long-term data sets, (2) advance objectives described in the LTER VI proposal (including science, education, & outreach), and (3) collaborate across one or more career stages (REU, graduate students, post docs, senior scientists, etc.).
- A letter (or email) of support from your academic advisor OR an LTER Co-I sponsor.
If funded, awardees are asked to expend the grant money within one year and must submit a short report describing the outcomes of the research at the end of the award period.
Note: Students conducting research at the Forest may arrange to stay in hostel-style facilities for $25/night.
