Though methods have varied, each survey has involved mapping forest stands followed by intensive sampling. In the most recent inventory (1986-1993), stands were identified using color infared maps taken in fall 1985 for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Management. Stand boundaries were verified on the ground. A minimum of three randomly located, variable radius, permanent plots were established in each stand. Each plot was measured using a standard forestry prism. Methods: Use: This dataset is released to the public and may be freely downloaded. Please keep the designated Contact person informed of any plans to use the dataset. Consultation or collaboration with the original investigators is strongly encouraged. Publications and data products that make use of the dataset must include proper acknowledgement.
