Senior Ecologist Aaron Ellison presented two keynote lectures in Germany this month at a multi-day workshop on "Red Wood Ants, Tectonics, Geogenic Gases & Statistics," organized on the occasion of his visit by faculty at the University of Duisburg-Essen and the University of Freiburg. Additional participants came from the Charles University of Prague, Technical University of Dortmund, and the University of Heidelberg. Field trips to the Lake of Constance, Black Forest, and the volcanic fields of East- and West-Eifel gave the participants ample opportunities for fruitful discussion - and, Ellison points out, "the red wood ants are amazing."

Ellison is the author, most recently, of A Field Guide to the Ants of New England and A Primer of Ecological Statistics, 2nd edition.
