Poison ivy can grow as an herb on the forest floor, or as a vine.

The vines become woody and hairy and live for many years.
- All parts of this plant can cause a reaction if you are sensitive.

They can cause an allergic reaction even in winter.

In the spring they may have a reddish tint.
- Notice that the paired lower leaves are often asymmetrical, the basal parts being larger and more deeply indented.
- Virginia creeper and poison ivy often climb trees together
- Hog Peanut, another 3 leafed herb and vine may be mistaken for poison ivy
