Spatial distribution of total C, total N, pH, rock content, bulk density, soil depth and their relationship to aboveground vegetation C stocks, and species composition

Principal Investigator: Eric Davidson
Woods Hole Research Center: Jul 01 2009 - Jun 30 2010:

Abstract:
We will study the spatial distribution of total C, total N, pH, rock content, bulk density, soil depth and their relationship to aboveground vegetation C stocks, and species composition at both Harvard Forest (MA) and Ituri Forest (Democratic Republic of Congo). At Harvard Forest, soil samples will be collected along transects at Prospect Hill and analyzed for total C, total N, pH, rock content, bulk density, soil depth and other soil properties. Data on aboveground vegetation C stocks and species composition will obtained from previous studies and if necessary, new measurements will be made. At Ituri Forest, we will be conducting in-situ measurements of soil physical properties, plant growth parameters and species identification in July 2009 (being done May-June 2009). Soil samples will also be collected for further chemical analyses at either Harvard Forest, Woods Hole Research Center and/or Lincoln University of Missouri.:
