Anatomy and tissue preparation of developing xylem

Abstract:
In order to characterize xylem development in various woody plants I wish to perform simple macerations of developing xylem, stain them and mount these preparations on microscope slides. I also wish to biopsy developing xylem tissue to send to my lab at UBC (or another lab) for RNA extraction. The plant material will come either from woody material sampled at HF (native or greenhouse grown), or from the collections at the Arnold Arboretum.:
