Long term decay of red pine and red maple logs

Abstract:
Logs (1 m length)and twigs of freshly cut red maple and red pine were placed on the ground in the Prospect Hill tract in July of 1990. Samples have been collected after 1, 3, 4, 5, 7,13, 15 and 17 years and density loss and total N contents have been determined. An additional focussed collection is proposed for 2010 (20 years). No sampling is anticipated for 2008 or 2009. :
